Thursday, November 10 is a unique opportunity for 50 fans of The Beatles and Strawberry Theatre Workshop to share in the making of yesterday's great music and tomorrow's great stage performances. On one night only, Paul Hiraga and his all-star band of Seattle rock artists will play their Beatles set for a benefit hosted by singer/actor Bhama Roget. Audience members will hear stories behind the making of the band's late career catalog—the albums too diverse and too complicated to ever be performed on stage—and the challenges for contemporary musicians to do them justice on stage in 2022.
Joining Hiraga and Roget for this third incarnation of BeatleConcert at Strawshop are bassist Rebecca Young, lead guitarist Tim DiJulio, and vocalist/guitarist Jeff Brown. New to the band is drummer Aaron O'Neil, and guest horn players RicPenttila and Max Rose. Making a special appearance for the third time is jazz pianist/vocalist Jose 'Juicy' Gonzales.
All proceeds from this benefit support the 2023 Strawberry Jam, the second annual Directors Festival of short plays that was inaugurated on the same stage at 12th Ave Arts in June 2022. Employing more than 40 local artists, SJAM is unlike any drama festival in the Northwest. Featuring a diverse mix of emerging talent making their paid professional debuts working beside veterans practicing outside their regular areas of expertise, SJAM is five weeks of motion and drama.
The 2023 Strawberry Jam isn't possible without the resources to develop the work percolating in Seattle's theatre community right now.
